All the speakers we picked as favorites had clearer voice reproduction than their competitors. About half of our listening focused on how the speakers sounded with voices, which are difficult to reproduce clearly-human hearing is quite sensitive to the naturalness of voice reproduction.

As we mentioned above, the only clear difference between professional models and computer-oriented speakers is that each pro monitor has its own built-in amplifier and volume control, which means you control the system volume from your computer or USB interface rather than on the speaker.
However, at the request of several readers, we have added a few professional monitor speakers priced below $300 per pair to our test group to see how well they compare to smaller, less-expensive computer speakers. We don’t require pro-style features such as balanced inputs because most people don’t use those. In instances where the manufacturer offers Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth versions of the same speaker, we choose to review the Bluetooth-equipped model, which typically costs about $30 more. But we do appreciate the inclusion of this feature, as it makes the speakers easier to use with more sources, in more situations.
Wireless connectivity: Since these speakers are likely to remain connected to a computer, we don’t think built-in Bluetooth support is mandatory. We also prefer models with multiple connection options. User-friendliness: We prefer speakers with volume controls located on the front so that you don’t have to reach around the back to turn down the music while sitting at your desk. Larger speakers might sound louder and fuller but may be too big for your desk. If speakers are too small, they distort or produce port noise when they play low bass notes. We look for computer speakers that strike a good balance between size and performance. But we also test a few 2.1 systems, which include a subwoofer that goes underneath your desk. Size and components: We test mostly 2.0 systems, which have only a left and a right speaker meant to sit on your desk, because these systems are by far the most common. Cost: You can find numerous cheap, plastic computer speakers priced below $50 per pair, but we’ve never heard one we’ve thought was worth buying. 
We also make sure they can fill a typical bedroom with sound loud enough for focused listening-that is, not just background music. We want to find speakers with a balanced sound that makes everything from music to conference calls pleasant to listen to.
Sound quality: The biggest distinguishing factor is the speakers’ sound quality. Shortly after we finished testing, Pioneer DJ announced a new version with Bluetooth, the DM-50-BT system, which costs about $20 more we will test it as soon as it’s available. The DM-50D is available in a black or white finish. Although the DM-50D pair doesn’t have Bluetooth built in, it does offer signal-sensing inputs, which turn the system on automatically when they detect an incoming audio signal this feature makes the DM-50D system work like a Bluetooth speaker if you connect a Bluetooth receiver, or like a smart speaker if you connect an Amazon Echo Dot. The DM-50D has three types of analog audio inputs (including balanced connectors) on the back, as well as a volume/power knob and a headphone jack, both of which are located on the front of one of the speakers for easy access. During our tests, in either mode the reproduction of voices and acoustic instruments sounded clearer through the DM-50D than it did through other systems in this price range. The system has two sound modes: The Production mode, as its name suggests, is better for audio production, and the DJ mode is better for movies and bass-heavy music. The Pioneer DJ DM-50D is our favorite pair of computer speakers because it sounds great and should fit well on most desktops, measuring 11 by 7 by 10 inches.
